The village of Peccioli lands at Shanghai Film Festival with “The Second Life”

Apulian director and screenwriter Vito Palmieri will represent Italy at the prestigious Chinese festival

Vito Palmieri’s The Second Life, which opened the 2024 edition of the Bari International Film Festival, will have its international premiere at the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival (June 14-23). The film, which deals with the sensitive issue of social reintegration after imprisonment, has been selected as the only Italian title in competition for the Golden Goblet Award. Vito Palmieri returns to Shanghai after winning the Audience Grand Prix with his debut film See you in Texas in 2018.

Peccioli and “its second life”

The shooting of the film took place in the village of Peccioli for three weeks in September 2022 and then continued in Emilia Romagna. The small municipality in the province of Pisa, which won he 2024 edition of the Borgo dei Borghi competition, launched by TV show Kilimangiaro on Rai 3, is experiencing precisely a second life thanks to an innovative vision in the combination of creativity and environmental sustainability. In fact, the Presenze, gigantic statues that stand out in the Tuscan landscape, metaphorically dialogue with the story experienced by the protagonist of The Second Life.

The female lead in the role of Anna is Marianna Fontana, known to the general public for playing the role of Daisy in the film “Indivisibili” (2016) by Edoardo De Angelis, which earned her the nominations for best actress at the David di Donatello and Golden Globe Awards. By her side Giovanni Anzaldo (“Razzabastarda” in 2012) in the role of Antonio.

The film is produced by Ivan Olgiati and Chiara Galloni for Articolture, in collaboration with Rai Cinema, with the support of Regione Emilia-Romagna through Emilia-Romagna Film Commission, the Municipality of Peccioli, Belvedere SPA and with the collaboration of Toscana Film Commission.
