DESCRIPTION
Piazza della Repubblica is a square in the historical centre of Florence and has a large rectangular shape, measuring approximately 75 m by 100 m. It is the best-know result of the Restoration period, when the city’s urban planning was redefined following the establishment of Florence as the capital of the Kingdom of Italy in the 19th century. The Colonna dell’Abbondanza, or Column of Abundance, marks the exact centre of the city, where the ancient Roman Forum was located.
