DESCRIPTION
The Palazzo dei Priori, dating back to the 13th century, is characterized by its façade with three rows of mullioned windows and by the numerous coats of arms of the magistrates who governed Volterra after its capture by Florence in 1472. On the building, the pentagonal tower stands out, with its cornice dating back to 1846. The Council Chamber is still used for Municipal Council meetings. In this evocative environment, decorated in 19th century neo-Gothic style, the coats of arms of the city’s noble families alternated with the coat of arms of the Municipality of Volterra (red cross on a white background) stand out in relief.
