DESCRIPTION
The walls of Lucca are the second best example in Europe of walls built according to modern fortification principles that have been preserved completely intact. The current ring of walls, which is approximately 4km long, is the result of the last reconstruction campaign, which started in 1504 and only ended a century and a half later.
