DESCRIPTION
The Fortezza Medicea (La Lizza) was built in 1560, for the purpose of preventing the Sienese rebellion against Florentine rule. It is 1,500 metres in length and square in shape with large bastions in the corners and walls built of bricks and stones. Today, the fortress is a public park with a small amphitheatre in the centre.
