DESCRIPTION
The Pisa Charterhouse in Calci is a vast monumental complex that stands on the slopes of Mount Pisano, 13 km from Pisa. It was founded in 1366 by a Carthusian family as a monastery and was enlarged between the 17th and 18th centuries, giving it its current Baroque appearance. Today, there are two separate museums inside the Charterhouse: the National Monumental Charterhouse Museum of Calci and the Natural History Museum of the University of Pisa.
