DESCRIPTION
In the heart of the Crete Senesi, the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore is a Romanesque-style monastic complex, built in 1319 with the classic layout of the Benedictine abbeys: a large church with a main cloister, a chapter house and a refectory. Inside the cloister, there is one of the most important pieces of evidence of Renaissance painting, the series of frescoes entitled Stories of St Benedict by Luca Signorelli and Antonio Bazzi.
