DESCRIPTION
The Castle or Fortress of Populonia is located in a panoramic position on the Gulf of Baratti. Located on the acropolis of ancient Populonia, the fortress re-emerged as a medieval castle in the fourteenth century, after the town had been abandoned for centuries. The current forms show a transitional structure, somewhere between a medieval building and the late-fifteenth century fortification.
