DESCRIPTION
Colonnata, a small hamlet about 7 km from the center of Carrara, is an ancient village of quarrymen located 700 meters above sea level, on the slopes of the Apuan Alps. It is known all over the world for the production of lard, once a peasant food that has now become a delicacy, and for its marble quarries, from which the so-called white gold has been extracted since Roman times. In addition to the narrow streets, the typical stone houses, the lard factories, and the splendid view of the marble quarries, in the main square of the village there is the Monument to the Quarryman, a modern white marble sculpture to commemorate the victims of accidents while at work in the quarries.
